Surfing in Essaouira — what to expect
Essaouira sits on Morocco’s Atlantic coast with year-round swell and a well-known afternoon trade wind. For surf, that pattern helps: mornings are often cleaner and gentler for learning, while autumn and winter bring more organised groundswell for intermediates working on timing, trimming, and small turns.
The main city beach is long, sandy, and easy to reach from the medina — ideal for first sessions and drills. When tides and swell align, we also coach on nearby sandbanks and run optional guided missions to famous Moroccan breaks further south.
We schedule around tides, brief safety clearly, and split groups by level so beginners are not pushed into conditions above their comfort zone. Boards and wetsuits are included in lesson prices; rental tables cover independent surf outside class hours.

- Water temps roughly 17–20°C year-round — we provide 3/2mm suits in mild months and 4/3mm + optional booties in winter.
- Afternoon wind is common in spring and summer — we prioritise morning windows for cleaner faces whenever possible.
- Bring swimwear, towel, reef-safe sunscreen, and a light layer for windy exits; we handle boards, leashes, and classroom theory.
