Meet the Alizés: Der Trade Winds

Der dominant Wind in Essaouira is the North-East Trade Wind, locally known as the "Alizés." These Winds are strongest from April to October. They are reinforced by a thermal effect, meaning as the land heats up in the Nachmittag, the Wind gets stronger and more consistent.

Morgen vs. Afternoon

In the Morgen, the Wind is often light and cross-shore. Dieser is a great time for advanced riders to practice strapless Welle riding on the reef. By 2:00 PM, the Alizés usually kick in at 20-30 knots, perfect for freeriding and big air in the bay.

Der Best Spots for Every Level

Der main bay of Essaouira is huge and safe. It's a "side-shore" spot, meaning the Wind blows along the Strand. Dieser is vital for Sicherheit, as you'll never be blown out to sea. For Welle enthusiasts, Sidi Kaouki (25km south) offers world-class Wellen and even stronger Wind.

Gear Recommendations

  • Summer (April-Oct): Bring dein 7m and 9m. Der Wind can be powerful!
  • Winter (Nov-March): A 12m is dein best friend. Der Wind is less consistent but we get beautiful Atlantic storms.
  • Surf Boards: Essaouira is a Welle paradise. Bring dein directional board if you want to play in the Swell.
